Second-hand kit

With children outgrowing equipment as they get bigger or decide to follow a specific competition pathway, the second-hand market is rife with suitable options. Remember, if you are buying second-hand then make sure the boards have a daggerboard or central fin and, if you are using them with small sails, that they are no longer than 320cm.

Online search facility

The RYA has also teamed up with Boardseeker to provide a link to their second-hand equipment listings. Children and families looking for second-hand equipment can now type in their team15 requirements - boards no larger than 320cm long, or specific sail size, listing 'junior' in the keyword. We are hoping to work with Boardseeker to develop a specific team15 search facility for the future.

Boardseeker also allows you to sell your own equipment as you outgrow it at a cost of £10 for up to five items.

Local centres

Many RYA windsurfing centres and some T15 clubs sell off their windsurfing equipment on an annual basis ready to replace in the spring; this ensures club kit is always current and in good condition. RYA centres would be a good starting point to buy second-hand equipment from and many operate a list during the season, so you could put your name down and collect in the autumn when they release the boards for sale. To search for RYA Training Centres online, or to request a brochure, visit the RYA website.

T15 message board

Facility exists for T15 clubbers to sell their equipment through the team15 message board; this may be worth browsing if you are looking to buy. If you would like something specifically which is not being advertised, then start a new thread detailing your requirements.

ADOPT-A-BEACH

The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants.

Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.

Adopt-a-Beach is definitely relevant to T15ers, which is a Marine Conservation Society project supported by the Green Blue.
