Event 1 Bewl Windsurfing Sunday 27 April 2008

Hotshots kick of SE T15 with narrow win at Bewl
| Hythe Hotshots beat the Bewl Blasters on their home water at Bewl reservoir, near Lamberhurst, Kent, this weekend (27 April) by a narrow one point victory, with Aquasports (Redhill, Surrey) in third slot. The event was the first of this years South East inter-club T15 competitions.
The event saw light and variable winds testing the 29 young sailors eager to get on the water and kick of their racing season. For Eilidh Hards, 9 from Hythe, it was her very first event, but she quickly learnt. "I went round the mark, but landed at the wrong beach. Can we do another race please? I think Im getting the hang of it now!"
The 3.5m class was won by Stanley Walsh, 11 Bewl, an impressive performance for a beginner to this sport. Zara Petts another beginner, 9 Hythe, and Elliot Wood, 12 Bewl, were nip and tuck, only a single point separating them over the 9 races, and finishing second and third respectively.
The 4.5 class was dominated by Henry Bloodworth, 10 Aquasports, but behind him there was a dead heat on points between Alex Techam, 14 Bewl and Dani Conroy, 12 Hythe, with Alex eventually squeaking into 2nd place.
The next T15 event is at Eastbourne on Sunday June 1st. Hythe Hotshots will need to fight hard to retain their narrow lead!

ADOPT-A-BEACH

The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants.
Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.
Adopt-a-Beach is definitely relevant to T15ers, which is a Marine Conservation Society project supported by the Green Blue.
