CLOSING DATE FOR T15/UKSA TRAINING CAMP - FRIDAY 1ST AUGUST 2008
Posted On:  23/07/2008 9:56:52 AM

Closing date for applications to the T15 / UKSA Windsurfing Camp on the Isle of Wight is next Friday, 1st August. Coach and Formula Windsurfing sailor Lucy Horwood will join the team to deliver the training camp taking place at UKSA, Cowes over the week of 24-29 August 2008.

A lucky 24 teenagers from T15 clubs around the country have the opportunity to take part in this residential training camp. RYA coaches and instructors will lead the action-packed week with the aim of planning for your windsurfing future. Coaching will concentrate on improving your general windsurfing skills, racing skills and your freestyle ability, using the new RYA Youth Windsurfing Logbook (W1/2008). Since the venue is coastal, this will also be the first opportunity for many T15 sailors to learn to sail on the sea.

To attend the week you must hold an RYA Youth Windsurfing Scheme Level 2 or Stage 3 certificate and be aged 14 or 15. Ideally you will have participated in T15 inter-club events but this is not essential.

There is opportunity to make some good friends with T15 sailors from across the country since one boy and one girl will represent each T15 zone. Sailors will be selected at random by zone from all completed applications. Closing date is Friday 1st August 2008. Should there be no applications from a particular zone, then wild cards may also be available, meaning that

The cost of this residential week is £199; this includes all coaching, accommodation at UKSA, food, evening entertainment and travel to/from the Isle of Wight by ferry from Southampton/Portsmouth area (venue to be confirmed).

Participants should bring their own equipment although a limited amount may be available from the UKSA. Mini-buses and trailers will transport participants and equipment to the UKSA at Cowes from Southampton / Portsmouth area (return) by ferry. Travel from all UK locations to Southampton / Portsmouth meeting point is the responsibility of individuals and is not included in the event cost.

To obtain an application form, please email gina.lindholm@rya.org.uk and make sure the completed application is returned by Friday 1st August.

ADOPT-A-BEACH

The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants.

Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.

Adopt-a-Beach is definitely relevant to T15ers, which is a Marine Conservation Society project supported by the Green Blue.
