FORMER AXBRIDGE ANIMALS COACH SETS UP CENTRE IN CORNWALL
Posted On:  02/07/2008 11:35:02 AM

Bob Shillito, former T15 Head Coach with the Axbridge Animals has relocated to Cornwall and set up his own RYA recognised windsurfing centre, with plans to create the Polkerris Pirates T15 club in the near future.

Set in St Austell Bay, just around the corner from Fowey, Polkerris Beach watersports centre is set in an idyllic Cornish cove with something for everyone. Now, the new centre has achieved RYA Recognised Training Centre status and is offering RYA courses with immediate effect.

Polkerris Beach is great for family activity holidays, since it offers a safe sailing area with clean winds and without the hazards of traffic and vicious tides. With the support of the Polkerris Beach team, younger family members can venture out with confidence, on their own or rented kit. RYA recognition means that it is now an ideal location to learn new skills and pick up a certificate to prove it.

For Team 15 windsurfers who learnt on inland waters, Polkerris provides the next step on to sea sailing. With accommodation on site and equipment storage, not to mention a pub right on the beach to keep Mum and Dad relaxed, it's great for training and enjoying some freedom on and off the water. Former Axbridge Animals T15 coach, Bob Shillito, who runs the centre said "Having experienced it myself, I know how difficult it can be to find a holiday location that suits the windsurfing family. Here at Polkerris, we reckon we have the answer!"

Polkerris Beach is recognised by the the RYA to teach windsurfing and dinghy sailing and has a range of equipment to suit all tastes. Advanced windsurfers can pull a range of '08 Starboard kit off the racks, including Futuras and Kombats, with Tushingham sails rigged on 75% carbon masts. Juniors are catered for with Tushingham Dino rigs.

To complete the picture, the centre also has a range of stand-up paddleboards and sit-on kayaks for rent: ideal for a leisurely paddle around the bay before peeling off for an evening on the beach as the sun sets.

For those looking to make the most of the summer holidays, a limited amount of accommodation is still available. Full details are available at http://www.polkerrisbeach.com/ or from the team direct on 01726 813306.

ADOPT-A-BEACH

The Green Blue is an environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. One of its aims is to educate and promote the sustainable use of coastal and inland waters by watersports participants.

Some of the initiatives have a relevance to windsurfers - especially in achieving cleaner seas and beaches.

Adopt-a-Beach is definitely relevant to T15ers, which is a Marine Conservation Society project supported by the Green Blue.
